Covid vaccinations

Anybody over the age of 18 who has had 2 COVID vaccines over 60 days ago are eligible for a COVID booster.

As part of the national vaccine drive, we now have some clinics available here at Wrekenton Medical Group. These appointments are available to book on Patient Access or NHS app or you can contact the surgery via the dedicated COVID appointments line on 07761 662847.

Please do not use the main surgery phone number to enquire about COVID-19 vaccinations.

We need to keep the telephone lines open for patients who need healthcare urgently.

Update Tuesday 14th December

The NHS and its partners are working extremely hard to roll out the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme to our communities.
All adults are eligible from Monday 13 December, and you will be able to book via the National Booking System from Wednesday 15 December.
You can book your booster for 3 months from the date of second vaccine, and you can access the National Booking System to book the appointment from 2 months.
We are working at pace to increase the availability of appointments so that there are plenty of options for people on the National Booking System. Some local vaccination services will also contact patients directly.
New appointments are being added every day across our vaccination services. Further availability will come online from Wednesday 15 December.
All of these appointments will be added to the National Booking System and so we encourage everyone who is aged 18 and over, is yet to have their booster and who is approaching 3 months from your second vaccine to use the National Booking System to arrange your appointment when you are able to do so.
In terms of any planned appointments with The Bede Centre, there are no changes at the current time and everyone should attend your planned appointments as normal. If we need to make any changes, we will contact you directly.

14th July 2021 - Following the update from the Prime Minister in regard to COVID restrictions, please be aware that healthcare settings still have a duty to ensure there are measures in place for infection control.  Therefore, our current policies will not be relaxed at present.

Our GP appointments will still be on a telephone basis initially, the GP will ask you to come for a face to face assessment if necessary. You must not come into the surgery unless you have been asked to do so by a member of the practice team.

If you do attend for a face to face visit, you are required to wear a face covering, sanitise your hands upon entering and when leaving, and keep your distance from others in the waiting area.

The safety of our vulnerable patients and staff is our highest priority.

Thank you for your understanding.

You cannot book face to face appointments with a GP.  All Appointments are triaged by a member of the practice team and a GP telephone consultation will be arranged for you.  Please provide the information requested by our team when asked.  If the GP believes you need a face to face review, they will arrange this with you.

You may wish to use our eConsult service to avoid waiting on the phone lines, please see the Appointments page for more information.

See the Prescriptions page for how to order your medication.

COVID testing

If you have any Covid symptoms, you must stay at home and self isolate until you receive a negative test result. You must not visit Wrekenton Medical Group, any other GP Practice, pharmacy or hospital.

To arrange a PCR swab (a test sent to a lab) please click this link PCR tests or call 119.  You should arrange a PCR swab test if you have COVID symptoms, have been advised to by Test and Trace, have had contact with someone who is positive or if you have had a positive lateral flow result.

Please click here Order lateral flow tests to arrange for lateral flow test packs for you and your household. You can also order via 119 if you are unable to access the link.  Please note: Lateral Flow tests are not designed for symptomatic testing, you must arrange for a PCR swab if you have symptoms.

From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from:

  • the NHS App which you can download from app stores
  • the NHS website (from 17 May 2021)

It may take more than a week for your identity to be checked and verified so you can use these services.

If you cannot access these online services, and you have had 2 vaccines, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119. Only call 119 if you had your second dose more than 7 days ago. It may take 5 working days for the letter to arrive.

The practice is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status.

When you're planning your travel, check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID-19 status when travelling abroad on the website. Make sure there is time to get  proof of your vaccination status before you leave.
